Video: Boston Dynamics To Start Selling Creepy Robot Dogs

Boston Dynamics will begin selling its creepy robot dogs to the public “within months,” according to CEO Marc Raibert, who told The Verge “We’re just doing some final tweaks to the design” after “testing them relentlessly” – hopefully to obey the three laws of robotics.

Spot is currently being tested in a number of “proof-of-concept” environments, Boston Dynamics’ CEO Marc Raibert told The Verge, including package delivery and surveying work. And although there’s no firm launch date for the commercial version of Spot, it should be available within months, said Raibert, and certainly before the end of the year. -The Verge

Raibert brought the company’s ‘Spot’ dogs to Amazon’s Re:MARS conference in Las Vegas this week, an event focused on machine learning, advanced robotics and space exploration. On the first day of the event, two Boston Dynamics employees trotted out a pair of Spots to dazzle the crowd, and freak out a police dog (until a toy offering was deemed sufficient for friendship). One Spot robot mounted with 3D cameras can map their environment and perform tasks such as track worker progress or identify hazards at construction sites. Models equipped with a robot arm can also open doors and manipulate objects.

Despite minor technical difficulties, the event went well for Boston Dynamics – owned by Japan’s SoftBank. One thing was clear; these dogs are really easy to control.

Using a D-pad, you can steer the robot as you would any RC car or mechanical toy. A quick tap on the video feed streamed live from the robot’s front-facing camera lets you select a destination for it to walk to, and another tap lets you assume control of a robot arm mounted on top of the chassis. It all feels very intuitive. -The Verge

According to Raibert, Boston Dynamics will be selling “athletic intelligence” through its robots.

Think of it like Amazon’s AWS business, but instead of offering computing power on tap, its robotic mobility.

The vast majority of bots in use in warehouses and factories today are only able to perform rote tasks, planned in advance down to the millimeter. But if robots are going to work alongside humans in more dynamic environments, they need to be able to react to hazards and changing conditions. These are eminently humans skills: tasks we complete without thinking — like catching a ball — but that stump all but the most advanced bots.

Onstage, Raibert demonstrated these skills by showing a video of Spot robot being frustrated in its attempts to open a door. The robot grapples at the door handle only to be shoved away by an engineer with a hockey stick. “We think this is one of the most important things we do,” said Raibert. “The [robots] can tolerate deviance around expected behavior.” -The Verge

At present, several construction companies in Japan are testing Spot to oversee the work progress on sites. “There’s a remarkable number of construction companies we’re talking to,” said Raibert, adding “But we have some other applications that are very promising — [including] in hostile environments where the cost of having people there is high.”

Sanctuary state of Oregon releases illegal alien who raped a dog to death after serving only 60 days in jail

People who abuse animals are sick and dangerous to rest of society. Something is very wrong with the mental and moral wiring. When the abuse involves sex and is such violent sexual assault that death results, the dangers are acute.

Now, consider what the sanctuary state policy in Oregon has released into society, even though the perp is not legally entitled to be in this country, free to express his sick urges again, next time possibly with a human victim. John Binder reports at Breitbart:

As Breitbart News reported, illegal alien Fidel Lopez, 52-years-old, was convicted last month and sentenced to 60 days in prison after raping his girlfriend’s small Lhasa Apso which led to the dog’s death. The judge in the case said he would have given the illegal alien more prison time but that 60 days is the maximum sentence allowed in Oregon.

Following his sentence, Lopez was immediately released because he had already served 60 days while waiting to stand trial. Despite his illegal alien status, Multnomah County, Oregon officials released Lopez back into the community.

Of course, Nancy Pelosi thinks Lopez has a “spark of humanity”…and is just another Global Citizen whom we presumably should keep here to demonstrate our virtue

Fungus Face? Bacteria Beard? Mildew Mustache? Men with Beards Have More Germs than Dogs

Hey guys, your “flavor savor” might not be good for ya! MEN with beards carry more germs than dogs including deadly bacteria in their facial fuzz, a hair-raising study has found.

Researchers discovered that nearly half of all sampled beards hosted bugs dangerous to human health.

The study was trying to determine whether there was a risk of humans picking up a dog-borne disease from an MRI scanner also used for examinations by vets, the Mail On Sunday reports.

In examining the beards of 18 men and the necks of 30 dogs from a number of breeds, scientists found that even hounds had lower levels of microbes than the beards surveyed.

Professor Andreas Gutzeit, of Switzerland’s Hirslanden Clinic, said: “The researchers found a significantly higher bacterial load in specimens taken from the men’s beards compared with the dogs’ fur.”

On the basis of these findings, dogs can be considered clean compared with bearded men
Professor Andreas Gutzeit

The study found all of the bearded men, aged from 18 to 76, showed high microbial counts, while only 23 out of 30 dogs had high counts, and the remainder had moderate levels.

Seven of the men were shown to have bugs hazardous to human health.

The scanners were disinfected after the dogs were examined on the MRI scanner, showing a “significantly” lower bacteria count compared with levels seen when used by humans.

“On the basis of these findings, dogs can be considered as clean compared with bearded men,” said Dr Gutzeit.

Keith Flett, founder of the Beard Liberation Front that promotes facial hair, was not impressed by the report.

“I think it’s possible to find all sorts of unpleasant things if you took swabs from people’s hair and hands and then tested them,” he told the Mail.

“I don’t believe that beards in themselves are unhygienic.

“There seems to be a constant stream of negative stories about beards that suggest it’s more about pogonophobia [the fear of beards] than anything else.”

China Is Going to Clone a Small Army of Detective Dogs

How does a provincial police department build a small army of detective dogs as savvy as Sherlock Holmes? Why, it’s elementary, my dear Watson ( and Crick). Simply clone the best dog on the force.

Scientists in China are already on the case. According to a report on the state-owned news site Global Times, genetic researchers in Beijing have successfully used the DNA from a murder-sleuthing sniffer dog named Huahuangma — a veritable “Sherlock Holmes of police dogs,” Reuters wrote — to create a clone puppy with a prodigious criminal justice career ahead. The idea is that by ensuring the “offspring” have the same strong sniffer and other sleuthing genes as the mother, these pups will also be top performers on the force. [ 8 Animals That Have Been Cloned Since Dolly the Sheep]

By all accounts, Huahuangma is a very good girl. The 7-year-old Kunming wolf dog — a German shepherd-like dog-wolf hybrid often employed by the police and military — has helped crack multiple murder cases as a sniffer for the Yunnan province police, the Global Times reported. Her contributions to keeping the peace have earned her the title of “first-class meritorious dog,” and hopefully many tasty treats.

Huahuangma’s mini-me — a now-3-month-old puppy named Kunxun — was born in a lab at the Beijing-based Sinogene Biotechnology Co. in December, following experiments conducted in tandem with researchers from the Yunnan Agricultural University and with support from the Ministry of Public Security.

Tests show that Kunxun and Huahuangma are a “99.9 percent” DNA match, and the clone-pup has already outperformed other traditionally bred wolf dogs on several tests. Kunxun will now begin training in drug detection and crowd control, and is expected to be a full-fledged police dog at 10 months, the Global Times reported.

If Kunxun has as bright of a future on the force as expected, it’ll mean a huge reduction in the typical police-dog training time, which usually takes about 5 years and costs the equivalent of $60,000, the Global Times said. The ultimate goal, a Sinogene representative told the site, is to mass-produce high-performing police puppies that can be trained in a matter of months instead of years — however, the current costs of cloning present a “bottleneck” to achieving this vision.

Whether or not the plan proves viable in the long term, Huahuangma is not the first doggy detective to share her DNA with a new generation of cop pups. In South Korea, a litter of six cloned police dogs began patrolling the streets in 2008. In 2009, the same company produced five clone puppies from a German shepherd named Trakr — a rescue dog who discovered the last survivor of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York. The pups were reportedly trained as search-and-rescue dogs themselves.

Dogs Against Fluoridation

Fluoride Action North Texas Urges the Dallas City Council to Halt Fluoridation Due to Landmark 12 Year Fluoride Study Citing IQ Concerns
Eight of the Dallas Council-members can vote against allocating funds to buy Hydrofluorosilicic Acid. Fluoridation stops without the Hydrofluorosilicic Acid.
How could any rational person put the saving of a very modest amount of tooth decay over the mental development of our children?”

Fluoride Action North Texas founder, Regina Imburgia is encouraging people to speak to the Dallas City Council, Ms. Imburgia says, “On Wednesday October 11th, we will go and speak to Mayor Rawlings and the Dallas City Council during the Open Microphone portions of the Council Meeting. Prior to the 11th we are encouraging everyone to call Dallas Council-member and Chair of the Quality of Life and Environment Committee, Sandy Greyson 214-670-4067 informing her about the Landmark 12 year Fluoridation Study that was just published September 19, 2017.” (https://ehp.niehs.nih.gov/ehp655/)

Ms. Imburgia explaines, “The credibility of this study is beyond reproach. This multi-million dollar study was subsidized by the U.S. National Institute of Health. The results of the first ever US government funded study of fluoride and IQ revealed a statistically significant association between fluoride exposure in women during pregnancy and a lowering of IQ in their children. Dr. Paul Connett, PhD, chemistry and toxicology, in a video response (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSo32UTXiLQ) states, “this finding is a game-changer in the fluoridation debate. How could any rational person put the saving of a very modest amount of tooth decay over the mental development of our children?”

Regina adds, “The Newsweek article (http://www.newsweek.com/childrens-iq-could-be-lowered-drinking-tap-water-while-pregnant-667660) by Dana Dovey was published on 9/19/17. Dovey highlights this new IQ study. Doug Main’s article (http://www.newsweek.com/fluoridation-may-not-prevent-cavities-huge-study-shows-348251) from 2015 emphasizes the fact ingesting more fluoride does not significantly decrease tooth decay. It is imperative the fifteen members of the Dallas City Council hear about the information exposed in these articles before they vote”.

Regina continues, “CM Greyson has the responsibility to the public and to the full council to review this new study along with other heath concerns from ingesting fluoridated water. Ms Greyson has the authority to make a recommendation to halt the Fluoridation program until conclusive proof is provided that adding Hydrofliorosilicic Acid to the Dallas water to raise the fluoride level is safe and effective for everyone.”

Regina believes, “When the Council understands that the harm of increased fluoride ingestion is directly due to their vote to purchase the fluoride raising Hydrofluorosilicic acid, they will not want that on their conscience, and they will vote no to the allocation”.

Landmark Fluoride Scientific Study – September 2017

The study demonstrates that when pregnant mothers drink fluoridated waters at 0.7 mg/L fluoride, they will give birth to children who will have meaningfully lowered cognitive function.

This means that most U.S. cities (like Dallas) which fluoridate their water (0.7 mg/L) fall into that category.

The credibility of the study is beyond reproach…

……a 12 year study

……a multimillion dollar study subsidized by the U.S. National Institute of Health

……prestigious institutions conducted the study (University of Toronto, University of Michigan, Indiana-Purdue University School of Dentistry, McGill University Montreal, Harvard, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and others.)

……starting with almost 1,000 mothers, the study rigidly qualified participants down to nearly 300 sets of mothers and children (testing the children twice).

He elaborates with a written statement…

The CDC in their “Recommendations for Using Fluoride”(circa 2001), states “the DOSAGE of supplemental Fluoride for infants under 6 months of age is 0.0 mg.”

The CDC’s ATSDR states:  “…Fluoride can cross the placenta from the mother’s blood to the developing fetus.”

Vegan pet dogs? Yes it’s happening

Dogs are man’s best friend.  So it follows that we’d want our best friends to enjoy the same things that make us happy and healthy. This is why it more pet owners are now switching their dogs to a vegan diet. Surprised? Don’t be. Just like us, dogs can benefit a lot from a plant-based diet. They can become healthier and improve their physical condition. They can enjoy an enhanced coat, gain weight, and have more energy.

Dogs are classified as carnivorous but they have evolved biologically to omnivores, which means they can get nutrients from a wide variety of sources like fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, and animal products. Unlike cats, dogs can get and synthesize all their nutritional needs from both food sources.

Kathryn E. Michel, veterinarian and associate professor of nutrition at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine stated: “The important thing is that you use a diet that has been shown to be nutritionally adequate for whatever stage of life you’re feeding, and it is absolutely possible to find a good quality commercial pet food that doesn’t have animal products in it.”

Going vegan can be highly beneficial to dogs. There is available evidence that show plant-based meals can bring positive effects to your pets. Studies have found that such a diet offers the following health benefits: increased health and vitality, improved coat, and better weight control, as well as decreased incidences of cancer, infections, hypothyroidism, diabetes, arthritis, and cataracts.

One study published in Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI) stated that it is possible for dogs to survive and thrive on vegetarian diets as long as owners ensure that they get all the nutrients they need. Vegan dogs may experience health problems but these are also common in animals that are on meat-based diets.

For people like Kery Shaw, a freelance photographer in San Diego, switching to a vegan diet has helped her dog, Portland, who used to suffer from bouts of diarrhea and itchy hot spots on the skin. She fed her golden retriever with a vegan kibble that had a pea-based protein and supplemented it with homemade smoothies and vegetables.

A chronic ear infection encouraged Shelley Boyle to feed her German shepherd/pit bull Cleo pinto beans, sweet potatoes, and brown rice every week. The infection was gone after five months. Cleo also sported a more beautiful and healthier coat, no longer had bad breath, and stopped excessively shedding.

Aside from obvious health reasons, dog owners can also turn to plant-based foods for environmental and ethical reasons. If you’re considering making the switch, it’s crucial that you pick the right pet food. Michel strongly suggests pet owners use only commercial pet food that have undergone feeding trials by the Association of American Feed Control Officials. It is also recommended to consult with experts in dog nutrition if you’re thinking of preparing the meals from scratch. This will ensure your dogs get the proper amounts of essential nutrients they need. Meals should contain protein from plants like soybeans, peas, or potatoes and must be supplemented with vitamins and minerals, as well as amino acids like vitamin B12 and calcium. Dogs require more protein than humans, which is why it’s important to choose a source that has enough protein.

But while some veterinarians are still on the fence about whether plants and supplements offer enough nutrients and make for an adequate substitute for meat, it’s best to consider what your dog needs. You know them better than anyone so you’re in the best position—with the help of your vet, of course—to determine if a vegan diet is ideal for your pets.
